Two people were arrested on Saturday after multiple passengers were stabbed on a train in Cambridgeshire , eastern England, prompting a large emergency response and suspension of rail services in the area, police said.
British Transport Police confirmed on X that officers were "currently responding to an incident on a train to Huntingdon where multiple people have been stabbed" and that "two people have been arrested."
According to Cambridgeshire Police, “a number of people have been taken to hospital” following the attack. The condition of the victims has not yet been disclosed.
Armed police officers were deployed to Huntingdon station, where the train was stopped and secured. Emergency teams remained at the site through the evening.
London North Eastern Railway (LNER), which operates services along the east of England and Scotland, said all railway lines through Huntingdon had been closed as emergency services responded to the incident. The operator urged passengers not to travel, warning of “major disruption.”
Authorities have not yet confirmed the motive behind the attack or whether the victims and suspects were known to each other.
An investigation is underway, and police have asked the public to avoid the area while inquiries continue.
