A US department of justice employee has been fired on Thursday after allegedly assaulting a US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agent with a Subway sandwich in Washington DC.
The suspect, identified as Sean Charles Dunn , 37, worked in the DOJ’s criminal division in the international affairs section, according to Attorney General Pam Bondi , as reported by CNBC News.
“I just learned that this defendant worked at the Department of Justice — NO LONGER,” Bondi wrote on X.
The incident took place Sunday night in the city’s Northwest section. A video on X was posted by FBI Director Kash Patel shows a man in a pink polo shirt and light shorts holding a wrapped sandwich while speaking to a small group of federal agents.
The footage then shows the man hurling the sandwich into the chest of a nearby CBP officer before running away, with several officers giving chase.
According to a police statement, Dunn was apprehended after attempting to flee. While in custody, he allegedly admitted to the act, saying: “I did it. I threw a sandwich.”
Dunn has been charged with felony federal assault. Prosecutors say the altercation began after he shouted at a group of federal officers, calling them “fascists,” before throwing the sandwich, as reported by New York Post.
“Why are you here? I don’t want you in my city!” Dunn shouted, according to police. Dunn was arrested on Wednesday night, Patel said.
The incident occurred amid heightened federal law enforcement activity in the capital. President Donald Trump ordered additional federal officers to support local police on August 7 and later asserted federal control over the DC Metropolitan Police Department, deploying the National Guard.
