The latest trailer for the fifth season of Stranger Things has shed more light on Linda Hamilton's role in the explosive finale of the Netflix sensation.
The final season will conclude the narratives of Eleven (portrayed by Millie Bobby Brown) and her friends, as the town of Hawkins faces another threat from the formidable Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower).
Set to be released in three parts over the forthcoming two months, the fifth season is anticipated to be one of the streaming behemoth's most significant new releases.
The series is already renowned for featuring legendary stars from popular sci-fi and fantasy franchises, such as Sean Astin from The Lord of the Rings and Robert Englund from A Nightmare on Elm Street, and it continues this tradition with the addition of The Terminator icon Hamilton.
Hamilton is best recognised for her role as Sarah Connor in the first two action-packed thrillers opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger, a role she reprised in the 2019 sequel, Terminator: Dark Fate, reports the Mirror.
In the upcoming fifth season of Stranger Things, Hamilton will be seen portraying a mysterious character named Dr Kay, who is described as another antagonist for Eleven, Mike (Finn Wolfhard), Steve (Joe Keery) and the rest of the gang to contend with, alongside their battle with Vecna.
However, despite being presented as an obstacle for the main cast, it seems she could eventually become another ally, as suggested by the new footage.
In a thrilling battle hinted at in the trailer, Dr Kay appears to be shooting her gun at hordes of Demogorgons from the Upside Down.

It's rumoured that she'll play a pivotal role in the military quarantine imposed on the town of Hawkins as the sinister alternate dimension begins to infiltrate the real world.
Given Eleven and her friends' history of causing havoc for the government, Dr Kay will likely aim to keep them at arm's length from the military's containment efforts, at least initially.
However, as the trailer reveals, Vecna has unresolved issues with the main group, particularly Will Byers (Noah Schnapp), who falls prey to the formidable mastermind formerly known as Henry Creel.
Upon realising the gravity of the situation, Dr Kay may find herself compelled to align with the Hawkins crew's strategy and join their fight.
Hinting at Hamilton's part in the season, co-creator Matt Duffer recently divulged to Empire: "She's hyper-intelligent and intimidating.
"She's a scientist but if she needs to, she can get into a fight and shoot a gun."
