Netflix's Building the Band air emotional tribute to Liam Payne

A heartfelt tribute has been extended to the late Liam Payne in a brand new experimental Netflix series, filmed prior to his passing.

The innovative show, titled Building the Band, invites 50 aspiring musicians to participate in a unique musical challenge.

Alone in individual pods and unable to see each other, the contestants aim to discover their ideal bandmates based solely on musical chemistry and connection.

During auditions held in private, participants judge one another's performances. If impressed, they hit a button to express interest, though they have a limited number of 'likes' to use before deciding on their band members.

One Direction's Liam, who sadly passed away in October last year after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, had recorded his guest judge appearance before his death and the episodes have received the blessing of his family for airing.

Early in the series, host AJ pays respects to Liam, stating: "When we came together to film Building The Band, we never imagined we'd soon be saying goodbye to our friend, Liam Payne.

"Liam is a guest judge in later episodes and through his presence, we see his deep love for music and his unwavering commitment to helping others find their voice. It is through that spirit that we dedicate this series to Liam and his family."

In the run-up to the show's debut, fans have already expressed their emotional anticipation, with many saying they "don't know how to get through it without crying" as heartfelt tributes flood in.

One viewer shared: "Not ready yet (crying emoji) They honoured Liam in a way that truly reflected who he was."

Another fan said: "Thank you from the bottom of my heart for this TV show! It will be special for all viewers to watch the talented @LiamPayne, who looks divine in the trailer... Thank you sooo much!".

A third admitted: "Don't know how I'm gonna get through this without crying when I just cried watching the trailer. RIP Teddy Bear. We love and miss you so much."

Netflix has hinted that out of six bands formed, there can only be one victor. Yet, not all will survive the cut.

As per Netflix's Tudum, the teaser suggests: "Is chemistry enough to make them a success? And when the bands finally do meet, how will looks, choreography, and style come into play? Expect plenty of drama, next-level artistry, and unforgettable performances."

Building the Band will be available to stream on Netflix on July 9
