Autumn has officially arrived, signalling the transition from iced coffees to hot cups of tea and cosy nights indoors. With this in mind, I've been on a quest for the perfect heated throw to make those chilly evenings extra snug - and Dunelm hascertainly delivered with one I can't stop using.
The Teddy Electric Throwis designed to keep you warm without turning up the heat, featuring a super-soft teddy fleece texture and adjustable heat settings. It's available in two sizes, priced between £40 and £75, making it a cost-effective alternative to running the heating constantly.
I leapt at the opportunity to try one out, particularly after experiencing the comfort of a friend's last Christmas and recalling how heavenly it felt. So, how did it perform?
There are four colours to choose from, but I opted for the versatile olive green to match my white, blue and green bedroom. My initial impressions were fantastic - the throw is incredibly plush and cosy, the kind that invites you to run your hands over it, reports Bristol Live.
I was momentarily confused about how it actually heats up, as the power source is ingeniously concealed within the fabric. A detachable cord connects to the blanket, which can beeasily removed when not in use.
The cord boasts a convenient control with five temperature settings, and it's so user-friendly that I didn't even need to glance at the instruction manual. The lead is lengthy enough to reach from my plug socket to both my bed and office chair, although I confess I spent more time than I'd like extricating myself from it during loo or tea breaks.
However, not all heated blankets require cords to function. This wireless heating pad from Stoov features infrared technology and a rechargeable battery. It's currently discounted at £109.99, down from £119.99.
Alternatively, there is this wearable option from Amazon (£24.99). This shawl fits snugly around the shoulders, making it an ideal choice for watching telly or reading upright in bed.
Once activated, the Dunelm throw provides a pleasing level of warmth. It heats from one side, but the heat permeates through for a full, cosy effect.
Moreover, I haven't actually switched on my heating yet as the blanket has kept me adequately warm (though that may change as temperatures continue to plummet!)
On work-from-home days, I stick to the lowest setting to stay comfortably warm, and crank it up for extra cosiness on particularly chilly evenings. Occasionally, it can get a bit too warm, but it's easy to unplug and use it like a regular blanket.
One surprising benefit has been its soothing effect on menstrual pain. I frequently find myself huddled up with severe cramps, but this throw has completely transformed my experience - it's like being enveloped by a massive hot water bottle.
In conclusion, Dunelm's Teddy Electric Throw has secured a constant place in my autumn and winter regimen. It's plush, cosy, user-friendly and truly keeps me warm without having to crank up the heating.
