Benjamin Sesko to Man Utd 'complicated' despite Newcastle fearing INEOS have won race

Manchester United have reportedly run into complications surrounding a pursuit of Benjamin Sesko, even though a move to Old Trafford is looking increasingly likely. Ruben Amorim set his stall out early doors that he wanted to add goals this summer, with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo having been signed as a result.

The Red Devils have been linked to centre forwards throughout the summer transfer window, with the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Ollie Watkins and Hugo Ekitike mooted as potential options. None of those deals transpired, meaning United have been forced to look elsewhere.

It appears they've settled on Sesko as their new priority target, with Premier League rivals Newcastle having also been linked to the Slovenian international. However, according to transfer guru Ben Jacobs, there is a belief within the Newcastle ranks that INEOS have won the race to sign Sesko from RB Leipzig. Sesko isn't said to be put off by the lack of European football at Old Trafford next season, with personal terms not expected to be an issue.

But, the stumbling block could come in the form of Leipzig's asking price, given the Bundesliga side are said to demand a minimum fee of £65million, with add-ons on top of that. It's the same problem Arsenal had earlier in the window when they were chasing after the 22-year-old forward.

Should United secure Sesko's signature, there's talk it could spell the end of Rasums Hojlund's career in Manchester. Leipzig themselves are rumoured to be keen, but Amorim was quick to heap the praise on the Dane following United's recent pre-season win over Bournemouth.

He said: "I am really happy with Rasmus. I don't know what is going to happen until the end of the market. The important thing is that Rasmus is scoring goals. He's connecting really well with the team. He's improving. Again, I don't know what is going to happen until the market is closed. I'm really happy with the players that we had last season. We looked like a different team today. Let's continue with that."

United don't have long until they open their Premier League campaign against Arsenal on August 17. The Gunners, buoyed by several summer signings themselves, will be looking to leave an early blow on their long-time rivals, who have won just one of their previous four trips to Old Trafford.
