Mumbra Train Tragedy: Central Railway Tells Bombay HC Multi-Departmental Probe Report Under Review

Mumbai: Central Railway has informed the Bombay High Court that the report of the multi-disciplinary team, which was formed to determine the exact cause of the Mumbra rail tragedy, is currently under investigation. The Mumbra railway incident occurred on June 9, 2025. This disclosure was made in an affidavit filed by the railway authorities in the High Court on July 12.

According to the affidavit, the team comprises senior divisional heads from various key branches, all of whom possess expertise in rail safety and operations. The formation of this team underscores the seriousness with which the incident is being treated.

The investigative team includes key officials such as the Senior Divisional Safety Officer, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner (Mumbai CSMT), Senior Divisional Operations Manager (General), Senior Divisional Engineer (South), and the Senior Divisional Electrical Engineer (Traction Rolling Stock Operations), all based in Mumbai CSMT.

These senior officials have been tasked with conducting a detailed inquiry into the incident, which has sparked widespread concern about passenger safety and the efficacy of existing operational protocols within the rail network.

While the affidavit does not disclose the specific circumstances surrounding the June 9 tragedy, the appointment of such an expert panel suggests that authorities are investigating potential systemic lapses.

These officials are tasked with conducting a thorough investigation into the incident, which raised concerns over passenger safety and operational protocols.

A senior officer of CR also confirmed that committee’s report is currently “under investigation,” suggesting that the findings are being reviewed internally before further action is taken or made public.
