AI Appreciation Day 2025: Where once AI was a promise far away, it has now emerged as an unseen yet potent presence behind the scenes in Indian higher education. From AI-powered learning modules to faculty training and AI-accelerated research, institutions all over India are coming to see AI not as a disruptor—but as a facilitator.
Reimagining Education with AI
Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Vice-Chancellor, World University of Design, talks about how AI is bridging educational gaps in India, “AI is transforming education in India by enabling personalized learning, improving resource access, and easing teachers' workloads through automation… especially in remote areas.”
AI-driven systems are now making real-time translation, voice-to-text learning support, and adaptive learning spaces a possibility. Dr. Gupta warns against over-reliance, though, “The key challenge is to balance technology with the human core of education: curiosity, questioning, and reflection.”
Generative AI in the Classroom: A New Academic Language
On the university campus, generative AI tools are already being used across disciplines. Professors are using platforms such as ChatGPT and other AI assistants to plan lessons, create content, grade, and adaptive tests.
“Professors are using AI to assist in lesson planning, generating content, assessments, and development of teaching aids tailored to course objectives and student profiles,” says Dr. Gupta.
This transition isn't just making instruction more efficient but also unveiling personalized learning pathways for learners—where feedback, additional aids, and adaptive practice change dynamically on the basis of individual performance.

Preparing Students for an AI-Driven Future
Reflecting this revolutionary trend, Ms. Amruta Ruikar, Head of International Admissions & Promotions, Symbiosis International University, provides a wider international outlook:
“AI is here, but not as a substitute. It's a silent collaborator… a thinking assistant helping teachers design better lessons, offering students personalised nudges, and giving researchers the gift of time.”
Ms. Ruikar quotes UNESCO reports that more than 80% of universities worldwide are already using AI solutions to customize learning and hasten research. In Dubai, AI is intrinsic to policy—with projects such as the Dubai Centre for AI and the region's largest AI-centered campus.
Transforming the Role of Educators and Institutions
At Alliance University, Assistant Professor Ms. Anupama K Ingale highlights how AI is affecting research and pedagogy at the same time, “AI is no longer just a tool; it's a collaborator… enabling researchers to navigate and draw insights from massive datasets at unprecedented speeds.”
Apart from research, the influence is being seen in everyday teaching as well. From innovative lesson planning to administrative functions, AI is assisting universities in optimizing faculty work and allowing for more time for people-to-people interaction and mentoring.
“The real game-changer is the advent of truly personalised learning journeys… AI adapts to individual needs and learning styles,” says Ms. Ingale.
