Post Malone's 27kg weight loss involved cutting out this beverage and science says it works

Post Malone, the chart-topping rapper behind hits like Circles and Rockstar, has undergone a remarkable transformation, shedding 27kg (60lbs) and unveiling his slimmer physique in a bold new campaign for Kim Kardashian’s Skims brand. Once weighing 108kg (240lbs), Malone now sits under 84kg (185lbs), and he says the change has not only reshaped his body but also his confidence. “It was really a lot of fun, it made me feel like a handsome son of a bitch,” he told GQ after posing in nothing but underwear and a cowboy hat in the Utah countryside.

The beverage he swore off
While many assume grueling gym sessions drive celebrity weight loss, Malone credits much of his progress to a surprisingly simple dietary change: cutting out fizzy drinks. Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast, the rapper admitted that soda was his biggest weakness on tour. “Soda is so bad. It’s so good but so bad,” he said, confessing he used to treat himself to a Coke on ice after a great show. Quitting the habit, he explained, was one of the biggest turning points in his health journey.

Science backs the switch
Malone’s decision to give up sugary drinks isn’t just anecdotal—it’s supported by research. A study published in the journal Nutrients found that replacing even a single sugary beverage with water each day led to measurable weight loss and improved overall health. Sugary drinks are a major source of “empty calories,” which can spike blood sugar, increase fat storage, and fuel cravings. By removing them from his daily routine, Malone cut out a significant hidden source of calories, making his weight-loss journey more sustainable.

Hot sauce, grilled chicken, and smarter touring habits
Alongside ditching soda, Malone revamped his tour diet, opting for grilled chicken, carrots, and rice instead of fast food. He also found a quirky but effective ally in hot sauce. Speaking to Howard Stern, he joked about his discovery: “Hot sauce has no calories in it. I was blown away… I lost 20 pounds doing that, and I was like, let’s keep going, let’s keep building.”
