A 38-year-old caregiver from Kerala was found dead in Israel on Friday, alongside the elderly woman he was employed to assist. The deceased, Jinesh P Sukumaran, was a resident of Koliyadi near Wayanad and had been working in Mevaseret Zion, near Jerusalem, for just over a month, Gulf News reported.
Israeli police found Jinesh hanging in a room of the house. In an adjacent room, his 80-year-old employer was discovered with multiple stab wounds. The woman’s husband, who Jinesh was reportedly caring for, survived and gave initial testimony to police.
The incident came to light around noon on Friday when local authorities responded to the scene. Jinesh’s family in India has been left in shock, and they say they are yet to receive any official information from Israeli authorities.
Jinesh, a former medical representative, had moved to Israel six weeks ago to repay debts and support his family. He is survived by his mother, sister, wife, and young daughter.
Though early reports suggest a possible murder-suicide, Jinesh’s family and acquaintances have questioned this theory. “The woman’s husband told the police Jinesh would never do such a thing,” a close relative said. “He was a devoted family man who spoke highly of the people he worked for.”
Relatives have also claimed that several items were missing from the house, raising the possibility of a robbery. No official confirmation has been made regarding this.
Sulthan Bathery DySP Abdul Shereef told Onmanorama that Kerala Police had not received any official communication on the case and were relying on media reports.
The family is now trying to coordinate with friends in Israel to arrange for the repatriation of Jinesh’s body. Further investigation is underway in Israel.
