The craze for higher education after class 12th has increased rapidly. For example, after passing the 12th, every student tries to get a degree. The trend of getting higher education in the country is increasing, but the trend of 19th-century institutes providing higher education, i.e., universities, is being seen as the opposite. Where students like humanities courses a lot, while courses in the science and commerce streams are lagging among the students. This trend is especially visible in top universities. Let us know where this trend has been seen? What is the reason behind this?
58.89% of the choice of humanities courses in DU admission
The trend of increasing demand for humanities courses has been seen in the DU UG admission process 2025. 2.39 lakh students have successfully applied for the DU UG admission 2025 process, in which the highest 58.89 percent of the students have applied for admission in humanities courses, while only 20.89 percent of the students have applied for commerce-based courses. Similarly, the number of students applying for science courses is only 20.22 percent.
Looking at the application trend in DU UG admission 2025, it is clear how science courses are lagging behind humanities among the students. If we try to investigate the reason behind this, then a lot becomes clear. Simply put, the decreasing demand for science courses in the university does not mean that the demand for science among the students has decreased. On the contrary, the demand for science courses has increased, but at present, students have other options apart from a science degree from the university. Due to this, the demand for science courses at the university has decreased. Let us know what these options are.
NEET- Instead of doing a science course in a university after 12th, students currently participate in NEET to get admission in medical colleges. About 20.8 lakh students participated in NEET 2025 itself. Out of this, more than one and a half lakh students will get admission in MBBS, BDS, BHMS, and other medical graduation courses, but even after this, many students will appear in NEET again to succeed. At the same time, only a few students take admission in any university.
Engineering- Talking about the second favorite option for science stream students, it is engineering. Actually, the demand for engineering is at its peak at present. Because of this, students prefer to take a degree in engineering, i.e., B.Tech, instead of doing a science graduation from a university. This trend can be estimated from the number of students appearing in JEE Mains to be held for admission in engineering. 14.7 lakh students appeared in JEE Mains 2025.
Paramedical: There is a craze for paramedical courses among science stream students after NEET and JEE. For example, at present, science stream students take admission in paramedical courses instead of taking a science degree from the university. In which many courses, including nursing and lab technician, are prominent.
Why are commerce courses lagging in the university?
Of course, the most demanding course in DU UG admission is BA Honors Commerce, but if we look at the total ratio, then the commerce course is not the choice of even half the students compared to the humanities. It is true that after the 10th, the number of students choosing the commerce stream becomes limited, but at present, students prefer to do courses like BBA, Management Studies, CA instead of doing commerce course from the university.
